Meet in Portland in the morning (typically between ~8:30-9:00 a.m.) and board a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle with a knowledgeable local guide.
Your journey travels along the Historic Columbia River Highway, visiting stunning viewpoints such as Vista House at Crown Point before entering the gorge’s heart. Expect scenic stops including waterfalls like Latourell Falls, Horsetail Falls, and the famed Multnomah Falls with its iconic lodge.
After exploring the gorge and its cascades, you’ll continue eastward to the Mount Hood area where you’ll arrive at points like the Timberline Lodge (elevation ~6,000 ft) for sweeping mountain vistas and fresh alpine air.
Lunch is often taken in the picturesque town of Hood River (own expense), known for fruit orchards and wind-surfing on the Columbia.
Return to Portland in the evening with memories of towering waterfalls, canyon cliffs and mountain peaks. Time, terrain and stops will vary somewhat by season and weather.
